The short answer is 2 to 4 months, but several factors play a role in that time frame being shorter or longer.

For Police Recruit Trainee, you are required to have:

A POST PELLETB “T-score” of 42 higher OR a passing NTN test score sent directly to the City of San Leandro; AND A POST WSTB score of 384 or higher and a 14-minute maximum time for the 1.5-mile run, dated within one year of application.

What does the WSTB test entail?

The WSTB includes a 99-yard obstacle course, a 32 foot body drag (165 lbs.), a 6 foot chain link fence climb, a 6 foot solid wall climb, 500 yard sprint, and 1.5 mile run.

The Police Academy is roughly 6 months long (28 weeks) and Recruits will be learning about the penal code, police procedure, de-escalation techniques, arrest techniques, and various other police duties/task. Learning is both in book and scenario form.
